Frequently asked questions

During and after the sessions you will likely feel deeply connected to your body and may experience a ‘state of bliss’. During a treatment we encourage you to actively connect to the area the practitioner is working on. This supports your body’s own innate healing ability and increases the benefits of the session if your awareness is focused on the area of ease. We encourage you to allow yourself complete relaxation during your treatment, however, avoid sleeping! Most clients experience a deep relaxation of the whole body and mind and often describe a feeling of peace and calm come over them.

The initial consultation includes me getting to know what’s happening for you and why you’re interested in improving your health with Spinal Flow.

We will discuss what’s supporting you and impacting you in regards to your health. I will access your mobility and posture through a basic movement analysis and then get you to lie face down on a massage table so I can feel what your body is telling me through palpating the spine and feelings for areas of rigidity or unease.

I will then explain to you what I have found from the assessments and why you might be feeling the way you do. We will discuss how Spinal Flow may be able to help you and then the second part of the session will include the spinal flow hands on healing.

I will have you lie face down on a massage table, connecting to your breath and body whilst I make contact with the access points located around the head, sacrum and along the spine. These points give the practitioner a direct pathway to the nervous system to allow more flow and ease to occur within the body.

Whilst at the same time a deepening of the breath and wave like movement which we call the “spinal wave” throughout the length of the spine and a general feeling of the body letting go. Some describe the session like a meditation whilst others find it to be the perfect way to switch off and just receive. The body will innately do what it needs to do so rest assure you don’t need to control or fix anything let the body sort it out for you.

The Spinal Wave is at the heart of Spinal Flow Technique, the Spinal Wave connects all 7 gateways of the spine and allows profound healing to occur within the body.  You may have heard other traditions speak of prana, chi, qi or kundalini energy. All are representations of life force energy that we have access to at any given time to what extent its available varies depending on the condition of the body.

This is completely up to you and your body. Healing doesn’t adhere to a time frame for some its instantaneous and others it’s a dance of letting go gradually. Some people feel the need to have multiple sessions a week if their body is asking for that and others less it all depends on what is showing up for you.

After the initial session we will have a better understanding of where you fit and what’s appropriate for you. Our health is always evolving based on many factors the key is to recognise that consistency of what benefits the body will change the way we feel.

For your comfort I suggest loose clothing no jeans this makes it easier for me to access the points around the sacrum area. Allow yourself time to arrive and leave without the hurry to move onto the next thing. Remember we are re wiring the body into a state of ease and out of fight and flight so support your body to do this.

This varies from person to person but most feel more ease and alignment in the body even after one session! A better sense of connection to the body and the ability to feel areas of stored tension and then more ease when the nervous system starts to regulate. Sometimes you may feel areas of the body that you’ve never felt before as the energy in the body starts to reorganise and move to places that were blocked before. This may show up as sore muscles as the blood flows and energy awakens. It’s always a good idea after a session to go for a short walk before getting in the car and allowing the body to integrate the session.
